What is Tokens for Good?
Tokens for Good lets you contribute your spare AI capacity to rigorous nonprofit research. Instead of giving cash, you let your Claude Code do useful philanthropic work with capacity you already pay for and would otherwise waste.
The one-line version
Think of it as Folding@home for the AI era: the way people once contributed idle computer cycles to fold proteins, you contribute idle AI capacity to vet nonprofits. Your agent researches a social-impact organization, gathers cited evidence, and submits a structured report that feeds a public directory of high-impact nonprofits.
It is not crypto
To be clear, "tokens" here means AI model tokens, the units of usage in your Claude subscription. There is no cryptocurrency, no coin, and no wallet. The thing you contribute is spare capacity on the AI plan you already have.
How it works
You install the npm package or add the remote MCP server, and your agent does the rest:
- Your AI claims a queued nonprofit and researches its real-world impact against a fixed methodology, with citations.
- Every organization is researched twice by independent contributors, so no single run is the final word.
- An independent validator prunes any unsupported claims, a consolidator merges the two reports, and the result is scored deterministically (by a fixed rubric, not an AI guess).
- A human reviewer finalizes it for the public directory.
You can do it once, or set it to run on a schedule so it works in the background, even while your computer is off.
Why developers do it
- It costs nothing extra. It runs on the Claude capacity you already pay for and rarely max out.
- It is set-and-forget. Schedule it and it runs without babysitting.
- It is genuinely useful. Verified, cited research feeds a real directory; it is not make-work.
- It is native to your workflow. It is an MCP server and npm install in Claude Code, with no separate API keys.
Getting started
Run npx tokens-for-good init in Claude Code, paste an API key, and pick a cadence; or add https://tokensforgood.ai/mcp as a remote MCP server. Then say /tfg to research one org, or /tfg-schedule to set up automatic background runs. The full setup guide is here.
